Charleston Area Beaches
The South Carolina coast is known for many things, including its beautiful
beaches. The beckoning of the ocean, bordered by miles of unspoiled, pristine,
sandy beaches make the South Carolina coast a destination for visitors and
residents all year round.
The Charleston, SC area boasts three beaches that attract both locals and
tourists
alike; Isle of Palms, Sullivan's Island, and Folly Beach. Each is different from
the others in subtle ways and the one you choose will depend on the kind of
beach
experience you’re looking for.
- is a beautiful little island with hotels, house rentals, a
marina, and a state park. While once the business district was home to an
amusement park, long since removed, it still houses many unique businesses.
Although this Island has grown well into the 21st century (with its boutique
restaurants, grocery store, retail, and even a Ben & Jerry’s) it has still
retained most of its home town feel. If you are looking for a time share to a
multi million waterfront (ocean, inter-coastal waterway, or creek front) home
this island has them all. The Jewel of an Island is also home to a world
renowned
Golf and Tennis resort ~ Wild Dunes. While Wild Dunes is a new edition to the
island, compared to its long history, its natural beauty has been carefully
preserved with oak tree lined streets, natural beach paths, and untouched
wildlife
habitats. For the feel of sand between your feet and the pristine fragrance of
the
majestic sea this is the place to live.

- is just across the harbor from historic downtown
Charleston
and south of Isle of Palms. Sullivan’s Island over the past 300 years has gone
from a reactive military strong hold (Fort Moultrie -Revolutionary war, Civil
War,
and WWI) to a relaxed and easy going Island for the wealthy. With most of the
Island just a walk or Bike ride away the Island has become a very close nit
community. The island offers home buyers large homes with large properties all
just a few steps away from the beach. With just a small business area the island
is 98% residents - a welcomed site to those use to over developed areas. For a
night out one can find themselves just down the road at some of the local
restaurants or pubs for a neighborhood get away. On Sunday you can find yourself
attending one of the small but very community driven churches. If this is your
style then you will find your neighbors to be people like SC Governor, Bill
Murray, and other amazing people.
Some famous residents of the past were Edgar Allan Poe and Chief Osceola. The
Crew
of the Confederate privateer submarine Hunley cast off its lines from the
northern
beach head the night of February 17th 1864 to complete its mission to sink the
USS
Housatonic . While this little island is one of Charleston’s most respected
historic military islands it has found itself in the limelight of newspapers
around the world as a great place to live.

- or as locals call her "the edge of America." Folly Beach can be
summed up as the Hang loose Beach of Charleston. If a very natural approach to
island living is your style then this is the best place for you and your family.
With Folly’s 1000 foot Edwin S. Taylor pier one can find time to fish, relax,
sun
over the waves, rent a jet ski, catch a boat for a day of parasailing, shower
after a day at the beach, listen to live music, eat at one of the casual
restaurants, buy bait at the tackle shop, or just watch the fish swim by… any
day
of the week. The pier is a great place for everyone and handicap accessible to
all
those in need. For those of you interested in visiting there are several hotels,
restaurants, and bars all along the beach for a great night on the town.
Throughout the year we find this laid back island playing host to major events,
festivals, and surfing competitions.
Speaking of surfing, if you find surfing is your passion or just a weekend
hobby,
you will not find a better place within 100 miles than the shores of this little
island town. This beautiful island is known around the Carolina coast as one of
the better places to catch the perfect South Carolina wave.
Here everyone plays a part in Island life!
